You are right in saying that movie has won several awards under its name. It is a movie which was released in the year 2001 and it was the highest grossing Bollywood film until 2013 when 3 Idiots overtook its record and emerged as the highest-grossing Indian film. A lot of factors contribute to the success of this movie, not least among them is that this film started with a story written by Devdutt Pattanaik, who was also one of the producers for this project. The story is about Chandramukhi, a half-widow who protects her home from evil spirits and demons with her nails and sharpened teeth. In the new city, she meets a young man who thinks that her teeth and nails are weapons, but as they become friends, she decides to reveal her secret. The movie was directed by P. Vasu and it starred Kamal Haasan and Vikram in the lead roles. Music for this movie was composed by A. R. Rahman and songs were sung by popular artistes like Udit Narayan, S P Balasubramanyam, Sadhna Sargam etc., who have been very sought after voices for Bollywood songs over the past few years. The film was released on 3 March 2001. It ran for 256 days in theatres and became one of the highest-grossing Bollywood movies at the time, alongside the third highest grossing Indian film, "Mission Kashmir". It was also nominated for many awards. The film won multiple awards including five Filmfare Awards South, six Star Screen Awards, three National Film Awards and fourteen International Indian Film Academy Awards. "Chandramukhi" received five awards at the annual ceremony of South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) including Best Director (Vasu), Best Music Director ( Rahman), Most Popular Actress Female (SunStar Ananya) and Best Supporting Actor Male Actor Award (Rahul Dev). In spite of the film's dazzling success, it has been criticised for its excessive violence. In fact, the Censor Board of India refused to certify the movie until cuts were made to reduce its length from 200 minutes to a more manageable 150. Naturally, those who had been proudly boasting that their film was now officially India's longest one were not happy at all. The movie was a blockbuster earning . It ran for 256 days in theatres and became one of the highest-grossing Bollywood movies at the time, alongside the third highest grossing Indian film, "Mission Kashmir". Chandramukhi wins National Film Award for Best Special Effects in the year 2000.The music was composed by A. R. Rahman, who won National Film Award for Best Music Direction, Star Screen Awards for Best Music Director - Telugu and Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent for this film. The background score was composed by Vidyasagar. It would be Rahman's last project with Vidyasagar before the latter's death in 2003 due to cancer.
